Souk

A man on a laden horse passes beneath a Moorish arch into the golden throat of a North African medina — and the whole ancient world of the souk opens up behind him. Sofia captures not a postcard moment but a living one: the market in mid-breath, vendors under umbrellas, goods stacked in doorways, the street still warm from the afternoon sun. Her oil pastel blazes with terracotta, saffron, cobalt and crimson — the exact colours of a souk that has been trading since before memory.
