Mother's Day

Some paintings are felt before they are understood. Mother's Day is one of them.

A meadow of wildflowers stretches upward toward a glowing amber and rose sky — cornflowers, daisies, and field blooms in every shade of blue, white and violet reaching, swaying, filling the canvas with an abundance that feels like an embrace. There is no single focal point, no hierarchy — every flower matters, every stem is part of the whole. Much like motherhood itself.

The colour contrast is breathtaking and deeply intentional. Cool blues and crisp whites blaze against a sky of molten amber and peach — a warmth that glows from behind the flowers like late afternoon light, or like the quiet, steady warmth that mothers carry with them always. The foreground is richly dark — deep earth tones of umber and forest green — making the flowers appear to rise from something deep-rooted and nourishing toward something luminous and open.

The oil pastel is applied with beautiful instinct. Flowers are suggested rather than laboured — thick, confident marks of pigment that capture the essential gesture of each bloom without overworking it. The stems are fine, scribbly, delicate — fragile individually, yet collectively forming something unbreakable. There is movement throughout, a gentle swaying energy that makes the whole meadow feel alive and breathing.
