Bharati Kar
Bharati Kar’s art is an extension of her identity. Often beginning with the elemental shape of a circle—an eternal symbol of Purnatva (wholeness)—her works evolve into faces that emerge from this simple form, sometimes serene and singular, at other times layered and intertwined with expressive eyes and flowing lines.
Born amidst the lush surroundings of Baripada, Odisha, Bharati absorbed art naturally into her being. She honed her skills with a Diploma in Fine Arts from the School of Art and Crafts, Baripada, followed by a Master’s in Knitwear Design from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT, New Delhi) in 2002. After a successful career in garment design and entrepreneurship, she returned to her first love—painting.
Her artistic journey has been marked by more than 45 group exhibitions across India in prestigious venues such as the Bombay Art Society, Lalit Kala Akademi, IWS Gallery Delhi, Salarjung Museum, State Art Gallery and Hyderabad Art Society, Bajaj Art Gallery Mumbai, Chitrakala Parishath and Venkatappa Art Gallery Bangalore, Gallery Gold Kolkata, and Pandit Bheemsen Joshi Gallery Pune, among others. Internationally, her works have been showcased in Urbino, Fabriano, and Bologna, Italy.
Bharati has received recognition and awards at various art camps, workshops, and events. She explores diverse mediums including acrylic, oil, watercolor, charcoal, and ink, and currently works in mixed media—moving fluidly between bold, plain backgrounds and richly textured surfaces. Based in Hyderabad, she continues her artistic journey with an ever-evolving practice that bridges tradition, experimentation, and personal expression
